As every Olympic journey, Valentyna’s decision to pursue the Olympic Dream came along with many sacrifices and difficulties. She turned down many incredible opportunities and risked everything in her life to pursue what she wanted the most: a chance to compete in Tokyo in 2020 and to show her children by the example that nothing is impossible.

Ignoring any doubts, Valentyna was determined to become eligible to participate in Premier League Karate competitions to be eligible for participation in Olympic Qualification Point Earning Events. She attained this goal by entering the top 100 in the world ranking by the end of 2017 and top 50 in the world ranking by March 2018.

Participating in Karate 1 and Series A divisions representing her dojo “Hayabusa Karate” of which Valentyna herself is the Founder and Chief Instructor, meant that Valentyna often fought without a coach in her chair. Despite this disadvantage, Valentyna made Top 5 in 2018 Chile Series A, Top 10 in 2018 Dubai Premier League and Top 10 in 2017 Rotterdam Premier League.

She also achieved other international results in preparation for these events such a Bronze medal at the 2017 International US Open in -55 kg, a gold medal in Women’s Open Weight at the 2017 International Pilsen Open and a Bronze medal at the prestigious 2018 Basel Open.

Valentyna moved up to the -55 kg category from a lighter weight category at the beginning of 2017. She managed to find her optimal weight for better performance and is able to compete in many consecutive international events and do the weigh in process often and therefore maximize the opportunities to sharpen her skills and tactics leading up to 2020. In 2018, Valentyna has fought in over 50 international matches and has prepared for the Olympic cycle by training with the best in the world. She will complete 2018 with the Shanghai Series A in December and begin preparations for 2019.

The new year urges Valentyna and all others pursuing the Olympic Dream in karate  to participate in international events all over the world in places such as Paris, Dubai, Salzburg, Shanghai, Montreal, Santiago, Tokyo, Moscow, Madrid and many more beautiful destinations with one common theme - the beloved tatami.  Preparation for these events is difficult, obstacles - plenty, international competition - fierce -  but the #ValyJourney is about making dreams possible under impossible circumstances.
